Topical Steroids for Dermatitis

Dermatitis is a common skin condition present in millions of people around the World. When it comes to treat it, modern medicine focus in the use of creams such as topical steroids to help relieve the symptoms and the signs. They are very effective in this aspect, but can also bring a series of secondary side effects.

Secondary Side Effects of Topical Steroids

Infection alteration. Steroids used on fungal infections can further worsen the infection, because they null the ability to fight bacteria.

Glaucoma. There is a link between topical steroids and high pressure on the eye's blood vessels. It can damage your optic nerve.

Stretch Marks. These marks appear in places where skin rubs skin, and unlike other types of stretch marks, these are permanent.

Skin Atrophy. Continued use leads to skin thinning and changes in the skin. You'll notice your skin gets shiny.

I am 100 percent passionate about this subject. I'm in full blown topical steroid cream withdrawals and just wrote a hub about it. Voted up!
