Bass Fishing Tips

Bass fishing tips are great to make fishing easier and avoid many of the pitfalls you may have when first starting out. As you gain more experience in bass fishing, you’ll notice that you’ll start adapting many of these tips naturally to your own style.  On this page you will find a collection of bass fishing tips I’ve discovered.  I hope you find them useful!

My Top 5 Bass Fishing Tips

Fishing is a great outdoor activity you can enjoy anywhere there is water and fishes. In some countries like USA it is even considered a sport and this is called bass fishing (Florida bass fishing). In order to win, you’ll have to catch the biggest fish. Of course, what you’ll need to keep in mind before reading the tips is that experience counts a lot, so don’t expect to become a pro in just a few days. Here are my top tips for bass fishing:

1. Get to know the fishes. If you are going to fish you must learn all about your prey, including the environment where it is usually found and the water temperature they are located at.

2. Get to know the water. Just because you successfully fish back home, doesn’t mean you’ll succeed at other place. Before even starting fishing, it is a good idea to ask local fishers for some information.

3. Using the greatest gadgets for fishing out there can give you a great advantage. I used to always follow the “hit and miss” process, but after I finally invested in one of these gadgets the process of finding bass. I know many people stick to “traditional ways”, and this is hard to change.

4. When buying new bass fishing equipment, be sure you read all about it before. The Internet is a great tool to perform some product research. Many independent people give their honest reviews on forums and specialized sites. If you can’t find trustworthy info, you can at least ask the clerk.

5. When the water is warm, it is harder to find bass in it. But know that there may be some fishes on the spot, they can’t do nothing about it. You will find more fish in “normal” temperatures.

Tips for Night Bass Fishing

Night bass fishing is popular in places where day fishing can be unbearable due to weather conditions or excessive heat. Since the water is too hot, the fish go deeper into water. At night, when temperature descends, they are easier to catch.

A good bass fishing tip is to choose well your location. If you’ve been fishing during the day, you should do it now at a spot close to where you found fishes. Bass aren’t moving all around, they rather stay at one placed, especially smallmouth bass. Places to try to find bass during the night include lighted boat docks, underwater roadbeds, shallow shorelines found in natural lakes.

When selecting a lure for bass fishing at night, you should use heavier ones, as they are easier to “feel”, here are some alternatives: plastic worms, topwater lures, hair jigs and pork rind and rubber jigs and pork rind.

Bass Fishing Tips for Beginners

Beginners should start by choosing a good setup, this doesn’t mean that you have to rush and get the biggest equipment out there. This doesn’t seem to be the best answer all of the time in my experience. Instead you should start with a small setup and then move on to bigger ones. Start by looking for smaller fish, over time this will give you experience to handle bigger and heavier bass.

On the topic of baits, you should also be conservative in the beginning – this is a great bass fishing tip. Grab the tackle you need and no more, don’t waste time buying everything from the fishing store. I would recommend you to get some spinnerbaits, some crankbaits and some plastic worms. Learn all about them.

Selecting the place to fish. I would recommend Mexico bass fishing to start, since there is less competition, but any good lake will do. Remember to take things calmly here; as a beginner the best is to start on the shallows and from there move on. This gradual approach seems to have worked for me and a lot of people I know.

So now that you have everything, there is one question remaining: Where do I find the fish?

This sport is often a matter of hide and seek. You have to keep searching for the bass and when you find it, never let it go. As a beginner, you better get used to the common places where you can find fish: structures and boat docks are obvious places to start, as bass love to hide there. A great tip is to “think like a fish”, where would you hide? As you gain more experience you’ll be able to naturally do it without too much thinking.

A final tip is to don’t be afraid of asking. Every fisher has been in the same place as you are now. Of course, there will be people who will think you just try to steal their secrets, but they are only a few. This way you’ll also make friends and enjoy the activity even more!
